About the activity

Cruise deep into the tranquil mirrored waterways of Australia's only Everglades. This spectacular network of wetlands showcases ancient landscapes and offers incredible photo opportunities. Australia’s Everglades are located in the northern part of the Noosa River system, within the sand dunes of Cooloola National Park. This is an untouched, pristine wilderness area that is home to over 44% of Australia’s bird species. Pure fresh water flows from the Cooloola Sandmass and filters through the tea tree infused ecosystem into this unique river system, creating the most spectacular reflections you will ever witness. You have the choice to experience the Everglades from the comfort of our specially designed eco boats, or cruise to our canoe launch area. From there, grab a paddle, hop in a canoe, and embark on one of Australia's best canoeing adventures (a 5km canoe leg to Harry's Hut requires a moderate level of fitness). Give us a day, and we'll give you memories for life!

Activity itinerary

Activity Schedule 6 h Your Explorer tour begins with a cruise across stunning Lake Cootharaba, where we enter Australia's only Everglades. Stopping at Fig Tree Point, you have the option to join a 600m rainforest walk or board a Canadian-style canoe for a leisurely paddle upstream through ancient landscapes and mirrored waterways known as 'The River of Mirrors'. Guides will provide expert commentary on the local flora and fauna, as well as the rich history of the area. Witness sub-tropical rainforests thousands of years old and the serene surroundings of Cooloola National Park. Light refreshments will be served during the tour. The Everglades, recognized as one of Australia's most spectacular waterways, is home to a variety of diverse animal species. Upon returning to Habitat Noosa, you'll have free time with the option to taste a craft beer at the microbrewery, try a dish from the onsite bistro (at your own expense), or explore the lake and surrounding bushland of the EcoCamp.

The bus driver who picked us up was lovely. She gave good advice for places to eat and a bit of local information. The boat was easy to access. The your guide gave good information on plants which was mostly all we saw. A flock of swans and pelicans from a great distance and blue kingfisher and that was it from the boat. The mirror pictures on the water were fantastic. The leader liked to talk about his friendship with local tribal people which did get a little boring. I did get a good picture of kookaburra which fly around the reception area and of kangaroo which are in the paddocks by the campsite. I know you can't guarantee wildlife but I felt this trip really did lack luster

Loved this tour. It was a delightful way to spend the morning. The tranquility and beauty of the Everglades shouldn’t be underestimated. I’m 65 but managed the canoeing easily - 5 is was just the right length. Enjoyed the boat ride home and learnt a lot from our wonderful guide Trevor. Highly recommend doing this for any visitor to Noosa or for locals who haven’t seen the Everglades and want to learn more about our history, environment and have fun in the great outdoors.
