Tour could have been so much better

Good opportunity to see a variety of attractions, but the descriptions make them sound better than they are (for example, the "flaming hillside" is a line of vents not much bigger than a gas fireplace) and you spend most of the day in the van driving from place to place. Our guide was hard to understand and gave us a minimal amount of information. We traveled with another van-load and I think their guide was better. We missed a whole level of displays at Gobustan because our guide did not tell us it was there (the entrance was a stairway off to the side).
At the last minute, we were notified that we would not be picked up (or dropped off) from our hotel. Then there was total confusion when we arrived at the meeting place and they couldn't decide which van we would fit into...
It was a long day (9-6) and we did not break for food or water until about 3pm. I am sure they had an arrangement with the restaurant (which fed ~40 people in 30 minutes), but surely they could find another restaurant near a mid-day destination.

Great itinerary. Our guide Ryad was very hospitable. You will see the main attractions outside Baku.

Great tour made exceptional by our guide Riad!
TZVI_R, October 2026
The tour itself was fascinating and well-structured, covering a wonderful selection of sites. What truly made this experience unforgettable, was our guide, Riad. His professionalism, broad knowledge, and passion were evident throughout the entire day. He went far beyond the standard scope of the tour, bringing along unique visual aids and demonstrations that brought history to life. Above all, his warm attitude, positivity, and fun spirit created a fantastic atmosphere. We truly enjoyed every moment, largely thanks to him.
A quick tip for future travelers: the itinerary is quite intensive with many stops, so time at each location is naturally limited. Additionally, I would recommend booking the tour without the included meal. Since the lunch takes place at a restaurant in Baku, it is much better to choose a dining spot independently to ensure better value in terms of both quality and portion size.
Overall, a highly recommended tour, especially if you are lucky enough to have Riad as your guide!

Chaotic

Very chaotic beginning. Apparently there were two bookings with same first name, one solo and us with 4 ppl. We got called from both tour guides. Spent 15 min trying to figure out where to sit. Don’t think the tour guides ever figured that out.
Our tour guide’s English was understandable but he had no humor and the information was spotty. The other guide was much better. Maybe you get lucky with the “good” guide. Anyway, we hit all the spots. Super long trip though. Be prepared.

Great one day introduction to Baku region

Our tour guide was very knowledgable about the history of Azerbaijan and a very enthusiastic communicator. The organizer dealt well with the logistic hurdles of the F1 GP to complete the tour as scheduled.
