About the activity

Hierapolis, meaning "Holy City," was an ancient Greco-Roman city located in Phrygia, renowned for its hot springs in Southwest Anatolia. The remnants of this city are situated next to modern-day Pamukkale. Hierapolis is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its thermal springs have been utilized for spa purposes since the 2nd century BCE, attracting individuals seeking relief from ailments, with many choosing to retire or pass away in the area. Key attractions include a vast necropolis filled with sarcophagi, the main thoroughfare with its gates and latrines, a cathedral, a theatre, and the tomb of St. Philip. The hot springs create cascading terraces known as the "Cotton Castle." Due to the considerable distance from Antalya, the tour departs early and returns late, but the experience of this remarkable location is well worth the journey. The estimated walking time from start to finish, including the theatre visit, is over 45 minutes.

Pamukkale day trip
A5583EBchiarac, October 2026
Although Pamukkale is a three-hour drive from Antalya, visiting it is definitely an opportunity not to be missed and it’s well worth the effort. Once there, you have enough time to visit the archaeological site, explore the travertine pools, and even take a dip in the thermal baths if you wish. Our guide, Aziz, took great care of us throughout the trip; he was very knowledgeable and engaging, explaining a lot of Turkish history and entertaining anecdotes along the way..
