Odori Park
Pass through Odori Park, situated in Sapporo's central district.
Odori Park serves as a green sanctuary within an urban office landscape, featuring 92 varieties of lilacs, haru elms, and over 4,700 trees. It's a beloved spot for both visitors and locals to unwind on its lawns and near its fountains.
Despite its name, Odori Park is essentially a road. It originated in 1871 (Meiji 4) as a firebreak line dividing Sapporo, later becoming a road known as Goshidori before being renamed Odori. While typically a place for relaxation and recreation, it also hosts some of Hokkaido's most renowned festivals.
Stretching from east to west, Odori Park is segmented into 12 blocks, numbered 1-chome to 12-chome, with pedestrian crossings marking each block. The park spans approximately 1.5 km in length, requiring about 30 minutes to traverse on foot.
