A Westman Islands Must

This was really the highlight of my visit to the Westman Islands. The tour guide, Cam, was very knowledgeable about volcanoes and gave very clear instructions on how to operate the ATV. After a short bit of practice, we were off on a great adventure.
The lava fields of Eldfell (which erupted in 1973) were awesome to ride over - it was like being on the moon! I felt under control at all times, but there was also a sense of freedom and, well, "wildness" about the ride. We stopped several times to check out the view and take photos. At each stop, Cam shared the history and significance of what we were looking at. I came away from the tour with a much clearer understanding of the Eldfell eruption in particular, and volcanoes in general.
I recommend this tour to anyone with a sense of adventure and an eagerness to explore a crucial aspect of Westman Island life.

We visited Westman islands in mid-September, right at the very end of puffin season. We were the only people on our tour and our lovely young French guide let us spend as long as we wanted in each location, telling us about the island, the puffins, and other things to do there. We had a really nice morning and would highly recommend this tour to others (and we saw puffins!).
