Activity itinerary

Activity Schedule 5 h 30 The Wet & Wild Elaho Exhilarator rafting trip is one of our most popular rafting adventures, and for good reason. Our talented team of professional river guides will teach you the skills necessary to ride big waves and catch air as you navigate down the Class 3-4 Elaho and Squamish Rivers. Your courage will be tested as you travel through the infamous “Devil’s Elbow” section of the rapids, as seen on TV’s famous Eco-Challenge Adventure Race. Depending on the water levels, you’ll also be able to swim through some small rapids and enjoy a few laughs as your crewmates scramble to stay on board. Along with some of North America’s most exhilarating rapids, your river journey will take you through approximately 10 miles of British Columbia’s most inspiring wilderness. Take time to appreciate your surroundings and enjoy the world-class scenery including old growth forests, dormant volcanoes, towering glaciers, and stunning waterfalls that cascade hundreds of feet toward the river. If you’re really lucky you’ll get a glimpse of the local deer, beavers and bears which often stop by the river’s edge.

I felt like I was in high school again!

This company knows how to have a lot of fun. The guides are a motley Crüe of young; mostly foreigners enjoying their working holiday visas. They engaged in an inclusive and joke-laden tirade that lasted til the last minute. The rafting felt safe, and the views were truly breathtaking. A really (quite literally) down to earth experience. I had a fantastic time.

A brilliant experience well worth a visit

Unfortunately our first choice (Level 4-5) white water rafting was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. However we were offered a second choice (Level 2-3) white water rafting. This was very enjoyable. Staff were very safety conscious. Our guide Geo was great and very informative. Wildlife was fantastic e.g. Bald and golden eagles, herons and a black bear in the river.

Unfortunately, our experience with Canadian Outback Rafting was extremely disappointing. We booked the Wet & Wild Elaho Exhilarator for three people and specifically chose this company because of its excellent reviews. We also had a guest visiting Canada who was returning home on Sunday, so this was our only opportunity to share this experience together. Our original trip was affected by severe rain and unsafe road conditions. The company notified us at approximately 10:00 p.m. the night before that the trip might not be able to operate. Although the timing was inconvenient, I completely understood that weather and safety were outside their control. Our booking was then moved to Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Because we had approximately a two-hour drive from Surrey, I contacted the company again at 9:00 a.m. that morning specifically to confirm whether the trip was operating before we left. I was told that their team had checked the road and that it was passable, so we began our drive based on that information. After we had already travelled most of the way and were close to Squamish, we received another message saying that the Elaho trip had been cancelled because the road had become impassable. We were offered the much gentler Cheakamus Class 2 trip instead, but that was a very different experience from the Class 3–4 Elaho trip we had booked. I understand that conditions farther up the Elaho Valley can be completely different from the sunny and pleasant weather we experienced in Squamish, and I fully support cancelling any trip that cannot operate safely. My disappointment is not with the safety decision—it is with receiving confirmation before beginning a two-hour drive and then being notified only after we were already close to the destination. By that point, other activities in the area were fully booked, so our entire day was effectively lost. Our guest returned home the following day, leaving us no opportunity to reschedule. The company ultimately processed a full refund and later apologized and explained the situation, which I appreciate. However, the late operational decision and communication resulted in a very frustrating experience for our group. I hope they improve their final road-confirmation and customer-notification procedures so that guests travelling long distances are not placed in the same situation.
Response from the operator · Rafting R
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We completely understand your disappointment. We are genuinely sorry that you did not get the experience you had planned. We would, however, like to clarify the timeline and circumstances surrounding the cancellation, as there are a couple of important details that may not be clear from your review. The original cancellation was due to an unexpected road closure following significant rainfall in the Elaho Valley making the road impassable. When we subsequently received information that the road was passable again, we were able to reschedule your trip and, based on the information available to us at that time, confirmed that the Elaho trip could operate. That morning, our team travelled the road again ahead of the afternoon departure. Conditions had deteriorated significantly, with further washout making the access effectively impassable. As soon as we had that updated information, we made the decision that we could no longer operate the trip. We also want to clarify the timing of the notification. Your required arrival time at our base was 12:30 p.m., and you were contacted at 10:30 a.m. to advise you that the trip could no longer operate. We appreciate that this was still a significant inconvenience, particularly for a group travelling from Surrey, but the decision was made as soon as we had reliable information that the road conditions had changed. The fact that Squamish was sunny that day unfortunately does not reflect conditions farther up the Elaho Valley. Rainfall and snowmelt higher in the mountains can cause rapid changes to both the access road and river conditions, which is why our team physically checks the road and conditions before operating when circumstances are changing. When we offered the Cheakamus Splash as an alternative, it was simply an attempt to salvage the day and still provide your group with an opportunity to go rafting. We fully appreciate that it is a very different experience from the Class 3–4 Elaho Exhilarator, and there was absolutely no expectation that you should choose it. We did have other guests choose this trip and all came back very happy to have gone rafting. We have had a number of guests affected by these changing conditions, and while everyone has understandably been disappointed to lose a day of rafting, the majority have also recognized that rapidly changing mountain weather and road conditions are simply outside our control and that safety has to come first. We understand that a full refund does not give you back the day you had planned, and we are sorry we were unable to provide the trip you had booked. Safety on our trips has to take priority, and unfortunately there are very rare circumstances where a trip confirmed earlier in the morning can no longer safely operate later that day.
