Guaranteed Sightings! 7 Seas Whale Watch is located in the heart of historic downtown Gloucester, MA, and in one of the busiest parts of Gloucester harbor.
As soon as you board the Privateer, you will be surrounded by the sights and sounds of Gloucester’s working waterfront. You may see fishing boats unloading fish, lobster men baiting and setting their traps, and perhaps even some of our indigenous wildlife such as Harbor seals, Gray seals, and various species of birds.
The tour begins with a harbor tour of Gloucester Harbor, starting with Cape Pond Ice (which most of you have seen on Wicked Tuna) and ending at the Dog Bar Breakwater.
A typical trip is anywhere from 3-4 hours but may be extended if the whales move further out for feed.
The Privateer IV was built for 300 passengers, but we only book to 150 to ensure the comfort and safety of our passengers. It is equipped with restrooms, and an on-board food galley and bar.

The Whale Jockpot!
LeeAnn_M, October 2026
We hit the whale jackpot and saw between 30 and 50 on a beautiful day for being on water! Every single staff member was so pleasant, helpful, and friendly; also the naturalist we had was superb. It was fun listening to her excitement about seeing all we saw, and her knowledge was amazing. Everything about this tour deserves a rating of 100 - on a scale of 1 - 10. I’m thrilled we took this tour.

Awesome Day of Whale and Dolphin Watching
KellyW2684, October 2026
We had a fabulous time on this excursion. You can tell Amanda, the Naturalist, truly loves what she does and has a passion for the Ocean life. We luckily saw Common Dolphin pods (which is not common) and the boat took its time to be sure to experience their beauty. Everyone on the excursion was friendly and knowledgeable. The time spent watching the numerous whales was phenomenal and there was not urgency for the staff to get us back to land. It was an amazing experience and well worth the money spent. Would totally recommend to anyone.

Great experience, would go again.

Amazing, enjoyable, crew ensured our success in seeing whales. Shared their knowledge and love of the creatures. Water was very choppy, maybe take something for motion sickness before you go, but crew again was helpful. I only wish they had their own bathroom or port-a-john at the check-in station.
