Great Family Trek
Lopezbadilla, October 2026
Simply magical experience with Sumatra Orangutan Explore! We went on a family trek into the heart of the jungle and everything was perfectly orchestrated from start to finish.
A huge thank you to our two exceptional guides, Juan and Riky, who made this adventure truly unforgettable. They were simply brilliant: passionate, attentive, always taking great care of us, and incredibly kind. Thanks to their expertise and perfect knowledge of the forest, we had the chance to observe several orangutans in their natural habitat with the greatest respect for the wildlife. Juan and Riky knew how to share their knowledge with fantastic energy and we felt completely safe from start to finish.
The organization on-site was impeccable: delicious meals in the heart of the jungle, perfectly managed camping, and a great atmosphere from morning to night. Special mention for the river descent on a traditional raft to conclude the trek, a moment of pure fun!
Juan and Riky, thanks again for these memories etched forever!

Very beautiful experience

Great, but in October you need to be well equipped. The clay soil is very slippery, with many climbs and descents. The orangutans were there, 7 of them including a mother and her baby. The base camp is well set up, with mattresses and mosquito nets. Floor mats for eating. It is very rustic but for a trek, very exotic. We also saw Pig Tail Monkeys and Thomas Monkeys. The guide was adorable.

3 days 2 nights for a truly ethical trek.

We spent three days and two nights in the jungle. It was incredible!
We set off to discover the jungle with a guide, Tambeng, and an assistant guide, Rian.
The adventure was incredible, but it is difficult to come across orangutans in their natural environment. The trek is relatively difficult, with many climbs and descents, steep paths, rain... Our guides did everything so that we could see some, and we were able to share real moments with them, while benefiting from numerous explanations about the fauna, the flora, and the animals of the jungle.
We were also able to share some fun moments in the evening with Rian, with plenty of laughs along the way. Tambeng, for his part, even offered me his ointment after a fall... Truly adorable!
We were treated like royalty. The food was excellent, with many fruit tastings!
Accommodation is in rather rudimentary camps, in the middle of the jungle and near the river, but the scenery is breathtaking and it is completely part of the adventure.
Regarding the transfers from the airport, we found that quite expensive. Indeed, our driver on the way there did not speak English correctly and did not stop for us to do our shopping, as we had asked him to. We therefore had to pay double at the village the next day.
For accommodation, prefer the guesthouse rooms, because the rooms in the village have a rather poor price-quality ratio! Absolutely no hot water, ants in the bed, roosters screaming all night in front of our door... In itself, nothing restful and it absolutely did not correspond to the price paid.
If you wish to do this "ethical" trek, we strongly advise you to take the guide we had. Otherwise, you risk ending up in one of the more comfortable camps, with many other people, where the guides feed the monkeys… That does not correspond to our vision of things, but it is up to you!

Amazing experience

I did the 2 days 1 night trek with our guides Bob and Harry, and it was an amazing experience! They were very knowledgeable, really valued doing the trek in an ethical way, and they were always ready to help me and hold my hand down the steeper paths. Highly recommended !! And I need to mention the really good food 😋

Do not miss on this experience exceptional

This was one of my favorite experiences in Indonesia.
The team come and pick you up directly where your driver drops you off. They take care of you from day one to the end.
The trek itself is not too challenging, and you have a lot of water breaks during the hike, you get to walk in the jungle surrounded by all theses monkey. At night, you sleep in covered little houses so you can stay dry in case of rain so no worries for that. Not only did we see all the monkeys that you could possibly see in the park but we did this trek with amazing people and guides. Our guides Jul and Amso really took good care of every single one of us. They prepared some tropical fruits along the way for us to stay hydrated and energetic. They answered all of our questions and explained more than just the monkeys. We learned about the forest, the trees, the birds…. They did a great job with a smile always!! Abdul, our chef, made amazing meal every night. We ate a lot so no need to bring snacks, this is not the Rinjani🤪
Overall, this is a must do! Do not miss on this experience exceptional✨
