At Sumatra Orangutan Trekking, we organize unique and unforgettable jungle trekking eco tours that help preserve the Gunung Leuser National Park and its endangered orangutans. But we offer more than just traditional trekking experiences. Our English-speaking guides are certified by the Indonesia Tourist Guides Association (ITGA-HPI Himpunan Pramuwisata Indonesia), and they enjoy sharing their knowledge with you while they help keep the Gunung Leuser National Park clean and safe for both humans and animals! Our day tours and activities make a difference in the local community. When you purchase one of our trekking tours, 10% of the proceeds go to children in Bukit Lawang who can’t afford to go to school and single mothers who struggle financially. This money helps the children attend school and eventually find jobs that will allow them to support themselves and their families.

Activity Schedule 3 j If you’re up for a jungle adventure, we offer this 3 day jungle trekking, that takes you deeper into the Gunung Leuser National Park, where you can enjoy its unique plants and animals. On this trek, you’ll spend two nights at different campsites in the jungle. Your trekking will end by tubing down the river in our “jungle taxi” back to your hotel. For this trip, you should be physically fit.

We had an incredible trek experience with Sumatra Orangutan Trekking! The guides were knowledgeable, kind, and helpful for the whole trip and always kept us safe. They stressed the importance of the wildlife and taught us about all the plants and animals we saw! Brema was a great guide, very conscientious of the capabilities of all in our group, and Memet was also very fun on the trek. The only part that was a little confusing for us was finding where to meet for the briefing the night before but when I called they had it all sorted out. Be prepared to ride a moto to the office!

Wow what a trip! I was already very excited before, but the trip was even more magical then I expected. We saw a total of 15 orangutans and multiple white handed gibbons. I heard that it is a lot and we are very lucky, but I just think it is because of our amazing team! Big thank you too Nasir, Eza and Justin! ❤️ The company can help you with everything you need. 10/10 experience. Best guides and jungle mama, Nata, Justin and Jaon. Great balance of trekking and chilling at camp. Amazing food and amazing vibes. Saw 7 orangutang on the first day! So good at spotting them and bringing you to the best spots. When I got sick in the jungle they were very kind and brought me back to the village for a few hours. The group was amazing. No complaints!!!
