2 Wat Pha Lat
Tucked away in the verdant forest on the slopes of Doi Suthep lies Wat Pha Lat, one of Northern Thailand's most peaceful temples. Often called Chiang Mai’s ‘jungle temple,’ it is also the final destination of the renowned Monk’s Trail.
Established in 1355, Wat Pha Lat possesses a distinct atmosphere compared to the more frequented temples in the region. Surrounded by dense jungle, the temple complex harmoniously integrates with its natural environment. Ancient stone structures, moss-covered steps, intricate carvings, Buddha effigies, and small shrines are scattered throughout the grounds, creating a serene and almost mystical ambiance.
A small stream meanders through the temple grounds, featuring stone bridges and quiet nooks that invite visitors to pause and reflect.
With its tranquil setting and beautiful forest surroundings, it's easy to see why many visitors consider Wat Pha Lat a true hidden gem of Chiang Mai.

3 Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is regarded as one of Thailand's most sacred pilgrimage sites. Access to the temple is via the 'dragon staircase,' a flight of over 300 steps flanked by a mythical seven-headed serpent, the 'Naga.' Alternatively, a cable car is available for those who prefer not to walk to the summit (cost not included).
Within the temple grounds, you'll find statues, pagodas, shrines, bells, and Buddhist artwork. The original copper-covered chedi is the temple's most sacred element. You will gain insights into the temple's history and the symbolism of the murals depicting the life of Buddha.
Perched 1053 meters above sea level, the temple offers a commanding view of Chiang Mai. It is best experienced on clear days, free from clouds or haze, to fully appreciate the breathtaking vista of the city and the Ping valley beyond.
Following the visit, you will be returned to your hotel.

Wonderful guide. Should be sitting in back of red truck for nausea and look at horizon or bring anti nausea meds. Many got motion sickness as truck goes winding roads. But guide was excellent

Great temple and guide
kclark0409, September 2026
This was one of our favorite things we did in Thailand. We booked and evening tour to see sunset and wound up being able to join in a ceremony for the full moon with our tour guide, locals and the monks. Our guide Sirlluk was so informative and grateful to be able to share her culture with us.
I would not recommend this particular tour though for anyone with mobility issues as there is some hiking involved, otherwise amazing
