The kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus is the official shuttle service for kunanyi / Mount Wellington. Journey with us to an altitude of 1270 meters above sea level for breathtaking views over Hobart and southern Tasmania. The 2.5-hour round trip includes a 30-minute stop at the summit's lookouts and observation shelter to admire the scenery. For those seeking more adventure, you can choose to hop on and off at five different bus stops within Wellington Park. These stops provide access to various alpine walking trails for you to explore at your own pace. Afterward, simply catch a later bus back to Hobart. The kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus is the only tour operator with exclusive access to kunanyi / Mount Wellington when Pinnacle Road is closed due to snow. Your tour includes insightful commentary from a local guide and a complimentary bushwalking map. Your bus pass is valid for the entire day. Our buses are equipped for wheelchair accessibility and can accommodate mountain bikes.

Fern Tree Playground
Optional hop-off at the Fern Tree Park bus stop. This is a sheltered, grassy area featuring toilets, picnic facilities, wood-fired barbecues, and a children's play area. It serves as the starting point for walks through shaded fern gullies alongside gentle streams. You can take the Pipeline Track to Silver Falls (40-minute return journey), which follows the path of the water pipeline supplying Hobart. This is a short, easy walk, also suitable for mountain biking. Consider visiting the Fern Tree Tavern for lunch, coffee, cake, or a refreshing drink. They are open from Tuesday to Sunday.

The Springs
Optional hop-off at The Springs bus stop. This is a flat picnic area with toilets, picnic tables, and gas-fired barbecues. It's also the starting point for numerous walking tracks and mountain bike trails on the eastern slopes of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. Embark on the Lenah Valley Track to Sphinx Rock (45-minute return journey), offering magnificent views of the Organ Pipes above, as well as Hobart and the River Derwent below. This is a short, easy walk through eucalyptus forest leading to the impressive sandstone rock platform of Sphinx Rock (please note: there is a 10-meter cliff drop). Enjoy a meal or snack at the Lost Freight Cafe, offering hot drinks, light meals, and snacks. They are open seven days a week.

Organ Pipes Circuit Trail
Optional hop-off at The Springs or The Chalet bus stops. The Organ Pipes Walk (3-hour return journey) is recognized as one of Tasmania's 60 Great Short Walks. This challenging hike follows the mountain's contour around the base of the 120-meter-high dolerite columns of the Organ Pipes, leading to The Chalet. Rock climbers can sometimes be observed in action, and the views are spectacular. You can walk uphill on well-marked trails from The Springs to The Chalet, or downhill from The Chalet to The Springs (1.5-hour one-way). This route offers great views of the Organ Pipes and Hobart and the River Derwent below.

Mount Wellington
Travel to the summit of kunanyi/Mt Wellington, reaching an elevation of 1270 meters above Hobart. You will have 30 minutes here to soak in the stunning panoramic views of Hobart and the east coast, and to the west, overlooking the World Heritage Area of Southern Tasmania. The summit of kunanyi/Mt Wellington features a sheltered observation area with interpretive displays, several lookouts, and restrooms, including accessible toilets. Take the Zig Zag Track across the plateau to a lookout point (20-minute return journey), offering expansive views of Tasmania's alpine environment. This is a short, easy walk. Alternatively, undertake a short but challenging downhill walk on the steep Zig Zag Track and Pinnacle Track to The Springs (1.5-hour one-way). This route provides excellent views of the Organ Pipes, Hobart, and the River Derwent below. You can then catch a later bus from The Springs back to Hobart. Utilize the hop-on, hop-off service of the kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus to discover a variety of short alpine walks and mountain bike trails on the mountain. Bus stops are available at Fern Tree Park, The Springs, The Chalet, and Big Bend.

It was the most amazing trip, as we had not expected snow, and it did! Snow all around, cold, with winds having a chill factor of -4C. The price of the ticket was really good for what we experienced The driver was exceptional, and the guide really knew his job. He even helped people down the mountain to their car parks We had ample time to go and spend time in the snow-capped parts.
