Waste of money
I7638UJlaurap, October 2026
We were handed glow in the dark bracelets at the start of our tour. They didn't glow. Not a deal breaker, but it would've been nice for them to glow. Our guide then told us tipping was appreciated, but the tour hasn't begun yet. Seemed disingenuous. The tour guide handed a ghost detrction device to someone in our group. Sadly, in 60 minutes, we didn't detect a single ghost. Even when told we were standing by the Graveyard of the Atlantic The tour was to be around 90 minutes. At 60 minutes, we hadn't heard much about ghosts. Just a lot of history. Which would be ok if we paid for a history tour. We left after 60 minutes. It was a waste of money, and I'm very disappointed. We were looking forward to this.
Response from the operator · OBXGhostTours Hi Laura,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations.
We did want to clarify a couple of things. The glow-in-the-dark bracelets are complimentary souvenirs we provide to our guests. Because our tours take place after dark, the bracelets may need to be exposed to sunlight to activate their glow. They’re simply a little keepsake from your evening with us!
Our EMF detectors are also provided free of charge as a fun, interactive addition to the tour. While we certainly can’t guarantee paranormal activity, we hope they add a little extra excitement to the experience.
Our tours focus on the haunted history of Manteo, combining documented historical events with local ghost stories, legends, and paranormal accounts. We believe understanding the history behind these stories makes them even more fascinating.
Regarding gratuities, tipping is always entirely optional, and we appreciate your feedback about how that announcement was received.
We’re sorry you decided to leave before the tour concluded, as you unfortunately missed the remainder of the experience. We genuinely appreciate your feedback and will share it with our team.
Thank you again for joining us!

Not a ghost tour
Lynn_E, October 2026
Our guide did a nice job of storytelling, however, it should not be billed as a ghost tour. She was somewhat opinionated about some topics which I think for some people could be very off-putting
