Monument of King Vakhtang Gorgasali
Vakhtang I Gorgasali, a ruler of the Chosroid dynasty, reigned as King of Iberia (modern-day Kartli) in the latter half of the 5th and the first quarter of the 6th century.
Pinpointing the exact dates of Vakhtang's reign is challenging.
In alliance with the Byzantine Empire, he led his people in a prolonged conflict against Sasanian Iranian dominance, which ultimately resulted in Vakhtang's defeat and a weakening of the Kingdom of Iberia.
Tradition also credits him with reorganizing the Georgian Orthodox Church and founding Tbilisi, the current capital of Georgia.
Historian Ivane Javakhishvili suggests Vakhtang's rule spanned approximately from 449 to 502 AD.

According to legend, the former Catholicos Kirion transferred the relics of Saint Shushanik to this church in the 7th century.

Kartlis Deda (Mother of a Georgian), sometimes mistakenly called Kartlis Deda, is a monument in Tbilisi that has become a symbol of the city.
The statue was erected atop Sololaki Hill in 1958, the year Tbilisi celebrated its 1500th anniversary.
Prominent Georgian sculptor Elguja Amashukeli designed the twenty-meter aluminum figure of a woman dressed in traditional Georgian attire.
She represents the Georgian national character: in her left hand, she holds a bowl of wine to welcome friends, and in her right, a sword for those who approach as enemies.
