Basilica Santa Maria della Salute
We will pass by Santa Maria della Salute (or Salute Church or simply La Salute).
This basilica in Venice is situated in the Punta della Dogana area, prominently visible in the panorama of St. Mark's Basin and the Grand Canal.
Designed by Baldassare Longhena, inspired by Palladio's models, it stands as a prime example of Venetian Baroque architecture.
Its construction was an ex voto to the Madonna for deliverance from the Plague that devastated the population between 1630 and 1631.
The devotion became so ingrained in Venice that the Virgin Mary was added to the city's patron saints.

Arsenale di Venezia
We will pass by the Venice Arsenal.
This is an ancient complex of shipyards and workshops occupying a substantial portion of the island city of Venice at its eastern end.
It was the core of Venice's shipbuilding industry from the 12th century onwards and is linked to the most prosperous era of the Serenissima Republic.
The impressive ships constructed here enabled the Venetian Republic to dominate the Mediterranean and secure a trade monopoly with the East.
Enclosed by 3 km of crenellated red-brick walls, it employed up to 16,000 people at its peak.
Given its scale, age, and innovative design and operation (ships were built using an assembly line system since the 16th century), it can be considered one of Europe's first true industrial complexes.
