To visit Venice in one day, four guided tours are listed on WizardTrip. Together they have 25,101 reviews, with ratings of 4.7 to 4.8 out of 5 (as of 18 October 2026). Two cover the Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica. One goes to Murano and Burano by boat. The last is a food tour.
This article compares lengths, meeting points, content and cancellation, then says which one to choose if you only have one day.
Visit Venice in one day: what to know
None of the four tours includes hotel pickup. Each starts at a specific meeting point: two at the Rialto, one in St. Mark’s Square, one on the Riva degli Schiavoni, facing the lagoon. The listings also set common rules, summarized below.
Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica: the 2-to-3-hour tour
The meeting point is under the portico of the Correr Museum, in St. Mark’s Square. Arrive 15 minutes early: the guide holds a yellow WalksDevour sign. The tour ends in St. Mark’s Square.
The program allows 10 minutes in the square, 1.5 hours at the Doge’s Palace, then 30 minutes in the basilica, admission included. The guide points out paintings by Veronese and Tintoretto and mentions famous prisoners, including Casanova. The tour crosses the Bridge of Sighs to the New Prisons.
Five packages exist. Two last 2 hours, without the terraces, in Spanish or English. Three last 3 hours, with the basilica terraces: small group, private tour for up to 6 people, early access.
Early access opens the palace before the public. Bryan tried it at 8 am in October 2026. He writes: “It was so calm and peaceful to walk through the museum without having to make your way through other tourists.”
The tour is not suitable for wheelchairs, strollers or people with reduced mobility. Photography and filming are prohibited. The basilica may close for religious celebrations, at Easter or Christmas in particular: the guide then comments from outside.
The listing shows 4.7 out of 5 from 6,171 reviews. The criticisms concern the sound and the meeting point. A traveler at 4 out of 5 finds the guide hard to understand. Another, at 1 out of 5, says they never spotted their guide.
Venice in one day: Rialto, gondola, St. Mark’s and the Doge’s Palace
This full-day tour lasts 4 to 6 hours depending on the departure. The meeting point is in front of San Giacometto church, at the Rialto, 15 minutes early, with a guide holding a yellow WalksDevour sign. The tour ends in St. Mark’s Square.
The 8:15 am departure lasts 4 hours, with no lunch break, for up to 25 people. The 8:30 am departure lasts 6 hours, with a free one-hour break, for up to 20 people. Lunch is included in neither.
The detailed program starts with the Rialto Bridge and its fish market (1 hour 45 minutes). A 30-minute gondola ride on the Grand Canal follows, with 5 people at most per gondola. After a 45-minute break, the basilica takes 1 hour, with the mosaics seen up close on the upper level. The Doge’s Palace closes the tour for 2 hours.
If bad weather prevents the gondola ride, it may be replaced by another activity, with no refund. The listing shows 4.8 out of 5 from 5,166 reviews. Michael, who gives 3 out of 5, warns: “If you go on a Sunday, you can’t visit the inside of St. Mark’s.”
Murano and Burano by boat: what do you see in 5 hours?
The Murano and Burano tour lasts 5 hours, about 2.5 hours per island, boat trips included. The meeting point is at the Vittorio Emanuele II statue, on the Riva degli Schiavoni, 20 minutes before departure. The guide holds a City Wonders sign.
A private boat, reserved for your group, makes the trips. At Murano, a workshop shows glassblowing, then a gallery offers pieces at a discount. At Burano, artisans demonstrate lace-making, before the lace museum or free time.
The guide speaks English, French or Spanish. The group has 22 people at most in English, 20 in French and in Spanish. A semi-private tour (8 people) and a private tour are available in English.
The lace demonstration may be missing on Mondays, especially from November to March. The listing advises against the tour in case of spinal injury. Infants sit on an adult’s lap.
It is the most reviewed listing: 9,614 reviews, 4.7 out of 5. Robert describes about an hour of demonstration and shopping at the glassworks, then 90 minutes at Burano. A traveler at 4 out of 5 finds the lace demonstration very short.
Food tour: what do you taste in 3 hours?
The food tour lasts 2.5 to 3.5 hours and takes 15 people at most. The meeting point is near the fountain, next to the steps of San Giacomo di Rialto church. Look for the Food Tours sign. Departures are at 10:45 am, 11:15 am, 11:45 am, 5 pm and 5:45 pm.
Eight stops of 15 to 45 minutes follow one another. They begin at the Rialto market with a coffee, pastries and cicchetti, the small bites served in wine bars. Next come Venice’s oldest bacaro, where Casanova was a regular, and a family-run pastry shop. A deli with cured meats and cheeses comes before a restaurant with a daily special. A handmade gelato ends the tour.
The listing announces 13 to 15 tastings depending on the sections, 7 to 8 bars and restaurants, and a sit-down meal. Food and wine are included, tips are not. Report your dietary restrictions 24 hours in advance: a gluten-free option exists.
The guide speaks German, Japanese, English, Italian, French or Spanish. With fewer than 5 participants in a language other than English, you join an English-speaking group. The group sometimes exceeds 15 people: you can then leave the tour after the second stop, with a full refund.
The listing shows 4.8 out of 5 from 4,150 reviews. One traveler points out that it is a tasting and not a meal. Another, at 2 out of 5, finds the tour too long, with a 25-minute wait at a gelato shop.

With children, in a wheelchair or in the rain?
The food tour is the most precise for families. Children under 3 go free if they stay on an adult’s lap and do not eat. Strollers are accepted.
It is also the only one presented as wheelchair accessible. To cross the canals, the listing recommends a ferry pass, bought separately, rather than the bridges. The Doge’s Palace tour and the full-day tour exclude wheelchairs.
The Doge’s Palace tour and the full-day tour are not canceled for bad weather. At high tide with no elevated walkways, plan on boots; the Doge’s Palace tour does not refund if the tide interferes with the visit.
For Murano and Burano and for the food tour, the text of the listings announces an activity that runs in all weather. Their booking data nevertheless provide for cancellation in bad weather. Three tours can also be canceled for lack of participants: only the full-day tour is not affected.
Which one should you choose?
- Short on time: the Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s tour, with early access to enter before the public.
- One day to see everything: the 4-to-6-hour tour with a gondola ride, the 8:30 am departure for a lunch break.
- Glass and lace: the Murano and Burano tour, with a French-speaking guide possible.
- Local cuisine: the food tour, at midday or in the evening.
- Wheelchair: the food tour, the only listing to state it is accessible.
The food tour offers departures at 5 pm and 5:45 pm, which can follow another tour of the day. Check the end times before combining them.
For the rest of your stay, the city’s tours and day trips are gathered on the Things to do in Venice page. The country’s other destinations are on the Italy page.
