About the activity

Discover the incredible oasis of Wadi Shab - one of the last places in Oman where you can chill in fresh blue water surrounded by mountains. Start the tour with pick up from your hotel in Muscat or meeting point (depending on the selected option). Hop into an air-conditioned vehicle and set off on a 2-hour scenic drive through the otherworldly landscapes of Oman. Along the route, stop at a local coffee shop to try an energizing Omani tea. When you arrive at your destination, hidden away in the canyon of the dry river Wadi-Shab, take a very quick boat ride to the other side of the bank. From here, embark on your 40-minute hike. During the walk, experience the awesome power of nature which has forged the rock formations of this impressive canyon. On the way back, stop to see a beautiful lake located in the Bimmah Sinkhole. Finally, return to the vehicle and begin the drive back to Muscat where you will be dropped off at your hotel or meeting point (depending on the selected option).

Bimmah Sinkhole
Bimmah Sinkhole is a water-filled depression, structurally a sinkhole, in the limestone of eastern Muscat Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman. A lake of turquoise waters, it is 50 m by 70 m wide and approximately 20 m deep. It is only about 600 m away from the sea, between the coastal towns of Ḑibāb and Bimmah. The sinkhole was formed by a collapse of the surface layer due to dissolution of the underlying limestone. However, locals believe that it was created by a meteorite, ‘Hawaiyat Najm’, which translates to ‘The Falling Star’ in Arabic, and hence the name. To preserve the sinkhole, the local municipality developed a park, Hawiyat Najm Park , around it, along with a stairway leading down to the lake.

Wadi Shab Tour
Samantha_B, October 2026
We liked this trip. The Wadi Shab and the scenery around is very beautiful. You can buy or rent shoes and life vest for 1 or 3 Oman rial. The lunch was simple but authentic food. The sink hole is nice to see. The guide Abdullah also made a very good job and was very friendly.

An amazing excursion... SO worth it!
khadijahdancernet, October 2026
The entire trip was like something out of a dream! I had an amazing time. Mahmood (the guide) was great and very "easy on the eyes" if you know what I mean ladies! However, I must warn others... this hike was VERY advanced and does requires some level of physical fitness to complete. Also no matter how great of a swimmer you are, I still recommend the life vest when swimming to the cave. The meal after the excursion was so delicious and you WILL work up an appetite prior to getting to the restaurant. The sinkhole was beautiful also! This trip was so worth it and I am so happy I booked it.

I had a lot of fun this trip. It was my favorite adventure in Oman so far. Abdullah our guide, led us on a great tour, fun adventure, good food, comfortable drive. Definitely get the life jackets even if u can swim. I got tired at the end 😅...

A Disappointing Day
lachlan_e, October 2026
It is a very long day travelling on a bus. The walk took longer than the advised 45 minutes and it was much more difficult than we were advised as well. We knew there would be walking but not climbing over large rocks.
Response from the operator · Maxim O
Thank you for sharing your feedback. Wadi Shab is a full-day adventure tour, and the experience does include walking over uneven and rocky terrain, including some sections with larger rocks. This is part of the natural route and is reflected in the tour description. We understand that the physical level of the hike can feel different from person to person, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

Great guide
Jas_K, October 2026
I just want to say how much I enjoyed the Wadi Shab & Bimmah Sinkhole full day tour 🩵. We had a great guide, Muhannad who explained everything so well and really took care of us throughout the day, making sure everyone felt safe and comfortable along the way. It was such a great experience and definitely a day I’ll remember. I would recommend hiring a life jacket, even if you’re a confident swimmer, as it really helps save your energy especially on a particularly hot day. Also, make sure you bring plenty of water and wear shoes with a good grip as you’ll definitely need both. Wadi Shab was challenging at times but completely worth it and the scenery was absolutely beautiful. This will be a great memory for me from my time in Oman. Thank you so much Muhannad for making the day such an enjoyable experience ☺️ !

Wadi Shab can definitely be a little challenging, especially on a hot day, but we’re so happy to know that the beautiful scenery and the overall experience made it completely worth it for you. Thank you as well for sharing your helpful tips about the life jacket, water, and proper shoes — they will be very useful for future travelers. We truly appreciate your kind words and recommendation. We hope this wonderful day in Oman stays with you for a long time, and we would be very happy to welcome you again on another adventure with GidOman!
