1Schooner Appledore II Windjammer Cruise
This is your opportunity to captain a wooden ship. The crew encourages your participation, so feel free to help hoist the sails or take a turn at the helm. The Appledore II is a robust and seaworthy schooner that has circumnavigated the globe, visiting numerous ports. Twice a year, she still navigates the Eastern Seaboard between her home ports of Camden, Maine, and Key West, Florida. Inquire with your crew about her rich history; some have completed this biannual 2,000-mile voyage.
Our day sail aboard the Appledore II schooner begins at Bayview Landing, leading us out of Camden Harbor. Camden, often hailed as the 'jewel of the Maine coast,' reveals its splendor as you sail past the historic Curtis Island Light, established in 1836, and enter Penobscot Bay. Renowned as one of the world's premier cruising destinations, Penobscot Bay will captivate you with its pristine islands, abundant wildlife, and breathtaking views of the Camden Hills and other coastal mountains meeting the sea.
During your Camden boat tour, keep an eye on the shoreline for Mount Battie, charming historic inns, and opulent summer estates of the wealthy and famous, complete with their million-dollar yachts. Observe lobstermen at work as they haul in their traps. On a typical outing, you might spot playful porpoises, ospreys and eagles hunting for fish, and even the occasional whale. Look for seals basking on the rocks and charming guillemots, relatives of puffins, with their distinctive bright red feet, waddling along the rocky shores.
Refresh yourself with a selection of cocktails, beer, wine, and soft drinks, all available for purchase during your sailing cruise.
As Camden Harbor reappears, unwind and let the sea breeze invigorate you as your unforgettable sailing ship cruise concludes.
