Visit Haghartsin, a 10th-century monastery recently restored through the generosity of Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi of Sharjah, who was deeply impressed by its charm.

Haghartsin Monastery
1 hour
Nestled within the woodlands of the Tavush region, Haghartsin monastery is a remarkable example of architectural harmony with nature. Originally founded in the 10th-11th centuries, with additional buildings constructed in the 12th-13th centuries, it comprises the churches of St. Grigor, St. Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God), and St. Stepanos, along with other structures. The refectory is particularly noteworthy for its sophisticated architectural design. Nearby, a massive ancient oak tree, nearly as old as the monastery, once completed the scenic view. Although only a fragment of its hollow remains, it continues to intrigue visitors and holds a tradition: those who make a wish and manage to pass through the tree's hollow are said to have their wishes fulfilled.

We were part of a relatively large group of about 50 people. The tour was very well organized and pleasant. Our guide Samvel was very informative and organized. Also our driver Aro helped make the trip smooth, safe and enjoyable, despite rainy weather we had for part of that day.

EmilysTravelReviews, October 2026
The trip was very good value for money and the lunch stop was excellent, particularly considering we were a big group. Our guide Nina was very knowledgeable and oir driver Karen made sure we felt safe the whole time. My only slight criticism is that I don't feel enough time is spent in Dilijan.
