Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum
Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park (平和記念公園, Heiwa Kinen Kōen) is a significant landmark, occupying over 120,000 square meters. Its tranquil green spaces offer a stark contrast to the surrounding urban environment.
This area, once the city's bustling political and commercial center, was deliberately targeted. Four years after the atomic bombing, the decision was made to dedicate this space to peace memorials rather than redevelopment.

Hiroshima Castle
Hiroshima Castle (広島城, Hiroshimajō), also known as the Carp Castle, is a prime example of a castle constructed on a plain within a city. It is encircled by a moat and features a shrine, historical ruins, and reconstructed Ninomaru buildings.
Originally built in 1589 by the influential feudal lord Mori Terumoto, Hiroshima Castle served as a crucial power base in Western Japan. Like much of the city, it was destroyed by the atomic bombing in 1945.
※Please note that Hiroshima Castle’s main keep has been closed to the public since March 2026 due to safety concerns. The castle can still be viewed from the outside, while the Ninomaru buildings, Ninomaru Museum Shop, and Sannomaru area remain open to visitors.

Itsukushima Shrine
Miyajima (宮島) is a small island located less than an hour from Hiroshima city, most famous for its grand torii gate that appears to float on the water at high tide. This view is considered one of Japan's three most beautiful.
Although officially named Itsukushima, the island is widely known as Miyajima, meaning 'shrine island' in Japanese, due to its strong association with Itsukushima Shrine. Similar to the torii gate, the shrine's main structures are built over the water.
Miyajima offers a romantic experience, best savored with an overnight stay in one of the island's traditional ryokans. While day-trippers are common, the island becomes notably quieter and more peaceful in the evenings. Wild deer, accustomed to human presence, roam the island, often seen along walking paths in the evening.
