My wife and I travelled from Canada to Cappadocia, and this balloon flight was supposed to be a highlight of our trip. I booked the “Sunrise Hot Air Balloon Flight Over Göreme & Fairy Chimneys,” operated by **Tourmania**, for September 30, 2026, weeks in advance. I paid approximately CA$650, far above the normal price, because I wanted the best possible experience. Instead, Tourmania cancelled the day before and left us scrambling. On September 29, they told us our allocated balloon had been taken out of service following a technical check. I respect the need to put safety first. My anger is directed at Tourmania’s handling of the cancellation and their appalling customer service afterwards. They said they could not secure an alternative, despite confirming that other flights were still operating. They offered a refund, could not accommodate us, and then stopped responding to my messages when we needed help most. We eventually arranged a replacement balloon tour ourselves, but because it was so last minute, we ended up paying TWICE the amount of our original booking. What should have been an unforgettable morning became a stressful scramble with an enormous additional expense. A refund does not cover that extra cost or undo the stress and wasted time. We booked weeks ahead and paid a premium. Tourmania’s response when things went wrong was a cancellation notice followed by unanswered messages. This was a disgraceful way to treat customers. An apology means very little when there is no follow through and customers are left to rescue their own plans. I would never book with Tourmania again. Based on our experience, I strongly advise anyone planning this once in a lifetime trip to choose another provider.

Very disappointing experience - book direct with the balloon company. I would strongly recommend booking a balloon flight directly with the balloon operator rather than through a third-party company. Our balloon flight was cancelled the afternoon before the scheduled flight, with very little notice. This was particularly frustrating because balloon flights had only operated once in the previous three days, meaning alternative flights were in high demand, very, very expensive and there were very limited options available to us. We were told that two of the three baskets had safety concerns. While safety must obviously come first, we were left questioning why these issues had not been addressed during the previous two days when flights were not operating. When we asked for the name of the actual balloon flight company so that we could independently confirm the information we had been given, this was refused. That lack of transparency was particularly concerning. Overall, the experience left us feeling that booking through a third party put us at a disadvantage when things went wrong. We would strongly suggest contacting and booking directly with the balloon operator, so you know exactly who you are dealing with and can communicate directly with the company responsible for the flight. Very disappointing and not an experience we would repeat.
