Dublin Guided Walking Tour: Castle, Book of Kells and Jameson Distillery

A 2-hour walk, a 2.5-hour tour of the Book of Kells and the castle, or 45 minutes at the Jameson Distillery: three guided tours of Dublin compared to help you choose by the time you have.

By La rédaction WizardTripUpdated on 7 min read

For a guided walking tour of Dublin, three options are listed online on WizardTrip. The first is a 2-hour walk from Temple Bar to Trinity College. The second combines the Book of Kells, the castle and the Molly Malone statue in 2 hours 30 minutes. The third is a 45-minute visit to the Jameson Distillery.

They have 7,551, 4,317 and 5,473 reviews respectively. Their ratings are 4.9, 4.7 and 4.8 out of 5 (as of 18 October 2026). This article explains what each one includes, what it leaves out and which kind of traveler it suits.

Guided walking tour of Dublin: what you need to know

All three tours are guided, but they don’t cover the same ground. The walk crosses Temple Bar, Dublin Castle, Christ Church Cathedral and Georgian Dublin. The Book of Kells tour goes inside Trinity College. The Jameson Distillery is visited indoors, in the Smithfield district.

The walk and the distillery tour run in English only. The Book of Kells tour is also offered with a French-, German-, Italian- or Spanish-speaking guide. The guides on the walk are, according to the listing, actors, writers, musicians or artists.

The 2-hour guided walk from Temple Bar to Trinity College

The 2-hour guided walk starts in front of The Old Storehouse pub, on Crown Alley, in the heart of Temple Bar. It ends in front of the main gate of Trinity College. The group has 30 people at most, with an English-speaking guide.

Nine stops of 5 to 20 minutes make up the program:

  • Temple Bar and The Temple Bar pub, which the listing describes as the most photographed in Ireland.
  • Dublin Castle and Christ Church Cathedral, with Strongbow’s tomb and the legend of the Cat and the Rat.
  • The Smock Alley Theatre, described as the oldest theater in Ireland, with a history dating back to 1662.
  • The Ha’penny Bridge, a pedestrian bridge over the Liffey since 1816, then O’Connell Bridge.
  • Georgian Dublin, then Trinity College, where the tour ends.

The listing mentions no admission ticket. It accepts strollers and service animals. All areas and surfaces are wheelchair accessible, and the walk suits all fitness levels. Restrooms depend on the places visited: the listing advises using one before departure.

The Book of Kells, the castle and Molly Malone in 2 hours 30 minutes

The guided tour of the Book of Kells, the castle and Molly Malone lasts 2 hours 30 minutes, for 30 people at most. The meeting point is the Edmund Burke statue, at the main entrance of Trinity College, facing College Green. The 2-hour walk also ends at the main gate of Trinity College. You need to check in with the guide 15 minutes before departure.

The program runs through four stops:

  • Book of Kells Experience: 40 minutes, admission included, with a skip-the-line ticket.
  • Trinity College: 10 minutes, with the site’s gift shop.
  • Dublin Castle: 50 minutes, with the original towers and the courtyards seen from the outside, then the gardens.
  • Molly Malone statue: 5 minutes, with the song “Cockles & Mussels” sung with the guide.

The Book of Kells is an illuminated manuscript from the 9th century. The listing notes that the Trinity College library has been undergoing renovations since autumn 2023, and that the book remains on display. It also mentions the exhibition Book of Kells 360 & Long Room Reimagined, with Gaia, an illuminated sculpture of the Earth.

The price includes a guide and admission to the Book of Kells, but not transportation, meals and drinks, or tips. Access to the interior of the castle is not included. A small-group option limits the tour to 15 participants.

The listing specifies that the tour runs whatever the weather. Its data nevertheless indicates a possible cancellation if too few participants sign up. No refund or rescheduling is possible in case of late arrival or no-show.

The Jameson Distillery tour and tasting

The tour and tasting at the Jameson Distillery Bow St. lasts 45 minutes, in the Smithfield district, in Dublin 7. It takes place in three rooms on the first floor, devoted to the ingredients, triple distillation and innovation. You show your Viator confirmation at the reception desk, at the back of the distillery, to pick up your tickets.

The price includes a local guide, a comparative tasting of three varieties of Jameson and a Jameson Ginger and Lime signature drink. The experience ends at JJ’s Bar. Food is not included.

The listing refers to the historic Bow St. distillery. Dawn adds a qualification in September 2026: “This is not the current distillery - just the site, unlike other distillery tours.”

Infants are welcome and must stay seated on an adult’s lap during the tour. Strollers are accepted. All areas and surfaces of the distillery are wheelchair accessible, and service animals are allowed.

The listing warns that you can’t do two experiences on the same day, for reasons of responsible hospitality. It also specifies that all sales are final: no refund is possible in case of cancellation.

Can you go inside Dublin Castle?

Not inside, according to the listings. The Book of Kells tour shows the castle and its gardens from the outside and doesn’t include access to the state apartments. The 2-hour walk devotes 20 minutes to the castle and explores its grounds.

The Book of Kells tour listing mentions no closure. Yet Jennifer writes in September 2026: “Dublin Castle is actually closed, so we weren’t able to see it.”

Are the tours accessible to wheelchairs and children?

The listings differ on wheelchairs. The 2-hour walk and the distillery say they are accessible. The Book of Kells tour advises against wheelchairs, motorized scooters and any other mobility aid. It can’t guarantee ramps on every path, sidewalk or curb.

For children, the Book of Kells tour requires an adult aged 18 or over to accompany anyone under 18. The walk and the distillery accept strollers. The distillery is aimed at an adult audience, but welcomes infants.

Which one should you choose?

  • You are discovering Dublin and want an overview: the 2-hour walk, the highest rated at 4.9 out of 5.
  • You want to see the Book of Kells with a skip-the-line ticket: the 2.5-hour tour.
  • You want a French-speaking guide: the Book of Kells tour, the only one of the three to offer it.
  • You want a whiskey tasting: the Jameson Distillery, 45 minutes, with no refund possible.
  • You travel by wheelchair: the 2-hour walk or the distillery, which their listings say are accessible.

To round out your stay, all the tours in the city are on the Things to do in Dublin page. Those in the country are on the Ireland page.
