To see Porto in one day, two guided tours listed online on WizardTrip cover the historic center. One lasts 3 hours by e-bike. The other lasts 4 hours on foot, with the cable car and a cruise on the Douro. The first has 5,663 reviews, the second 5,539, with ratings of 4.9 out of 5 (as of 18 October 2026).
The e-bike tour strings together eleven sights without effort on the hills. The walking tour crosses the city, takes the cable car up and ends on the water, with admission to the Lello bookshop as an option. This article compares their content, their participation requirements and their limits.
One day in Porto: what you need to know
Both tours go through the Ribeira district, on the banks of the Douro, and across the Dom Luís I Bridge. This bridge was built in 1886 by the Belgian engineer Théophile Seyrig. They also take in the Lello bookshop and São Bento station. The bike listing points out that the Ribeira is part of Porto’s UNESCO-listed historic center.
Neither includes hotel pickup, and both ask you to arrive 15 minutes before the start. Each requires a minimum number of participants: 2 people for the public e-bike tour, an unspecified number on foot. If that minimum isn’t reached, the walking listing offers another date, an equivalent tour or a full refund.
The e-bike tour: 3 hours, eleven sights
A storytelling guide leads the group, after a general briefing. The group has 15 people at most. The listing lists guided tours in English, German, Dutch and French, as well as private tours in those four languages. It doesn’t give the starting point. Two options, in Dutch and in English, ask you to bring your own e-bike: no bike is then provided.
The program opens at the Serra do Pilar Monastery. The listing praises one of the best panoramic views in Porto, for 15 minutes. The group then crosses the Dom Luís I Bridge without stopping, then pauses for 10 minutes at Praça da Ribeira.
Next come Miragaia, ridden through without stopping, then 10 minutes at the Cordoaria Gardens. After that come 5 minutes at the Clérigos Tower and 10 minutes at the Lello bookshop. The group then rides, without stopping, along Cândido dos Reis and Galerias Paris streets and Avenida dos Aliados. It stops for 10 minutes at São Bento station, famous for its azulejos, and 10 minutes at the cathedral.
All the bikes are electric, which lets you, according to the listing, explore the hills and cobbled streets without effort. Peter (4 out of 5, October 2026) regrets the lack of water in hot weather. His review says: “I would give it a 5 if water had been provided.”
Another October 2026 review tells of a battery failure halfway through. The guide swapped his bike for the participant’s.
The walking tour: Lello, cable car and a cruise on the Douro
This tour lasts 4 hours, for a group of 18 people at most. The meeting point is the Portuguese Center for Photography, Largo Amor de Perdição. The tour ends at Cais de Gaia, in Vila Nova de Gaia. The listing’s program starts at 9 am; one review also mentions an afternoon tour.
The schedule falls into five parts. First, 40 minutes of walking, with São Bento station and the Ribeira district. In the option with the bookshop, 40 minutes inside Lello follow, then 1 hour 10 minutes of walking. The cable car takes 30 minutes, then the cruise 1 hour. From 17 to 30 November, the cable car is under maintenance. The Guindais Funicular replaces it, according to the listing.
The price includes the Douro cruise, the cable car ticket and a bilingual guide. The boat passes under the city’s bridges, including the Dom Luís I Bridge. The banks offer traditional rabelo boats and colorful houses.
Admission to the Lello bookshop is included only in the options with the bookshop: the regular tour with a Portuguese, English or Spanish guide. The options without the bookshop, in English or Spanish, don’t include this ticket. A private tour also exists.
An October 2026 review specifies that the cable car ride is short. It leads to the Douro quay, where the one-hour boat ride departs. The same review isn’t convinced by the boat ride. A 3-out-of-5 review from October 2026 reports a group of 25 people, while the listing states 18 at most. It also mentions more than 30 minutes in a local café.

Is the Lello bookshop worth the wait?
On the e-bike tour, the stop in front of the bookshop lasts 10 minutes and admission costs extra. On foot, the tour allows 40 minutes inside, with admission included in the option. The bike listing describes it as one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world.
Sally (5 out of 5, October 2026) recommends the first departure of the day. Her argument: being “the first group to enter the magnificent Livraria Lello when it opened.”
Other reviews are more measured. An October 2026 review finds the bookshop very crowded and payment difficult. Another review, also from October 2026, says it skipped the bookshop, judged too packed. The options without the bookshop in the walking listing don’t include the admission ticket.
Who can take the e-bike tour, and what if it rains?
The bike listing sets strict conditions. Participants must be at least 1.30 meters tall and weigh no more than 118 kilos. Minors, up to age 17, come with an adult who signs a liability waiver on arrival. Pregnant women and people under the influence of alcohol are not allowed.
You also need to know how to ride. The organizer may ask for a demonstration of basic skills. It may cancel the booking with no refund if the participant can’t ride a bike properly. If you drop out during the tour, a €50 transport fee applies. The listing asks for at least a moderate level of fitness.
On rain, the bike listing is clear: the tour runs in the rain. If the organizer judges safety insufficient, a same-day reschedule may be offered, subject to availability and with no refund. To cancel yourself, it says 24 hours before departure, and elsewhere 24 business hours.
A 2-out-of-5 review from September 2026 describes very busy streets, with tram tracks and slippery cobblestones. It finds the bikes underpowered for the steep hills.
The walking tour, for its part, is not wheelchair accessible. It suits all fitness levels. Its listing mentions no minimum height and indicates cancellation in bad weather.
Which one should you choose?
- You are comfortable on a bike and want eleven sights in 3 hours: the e-bike tour.
- You want to go inside the Lello bookshop: the walking tour with the bookshop option, 40 minutes inside.
- You want to see Porto from the river and from the cable car: the walking tour, which includes both.
- You are traveling with a child under 1.30 meters tall: the walking tour, as the bike tour requires that minimum height.
- You travel by wheelchair: the walking tour is not accessible, and the bike tour is not recommended for anyone with a physical disability.
For the rest of your stay, the city’s tours and excursions are gathered on the Things to do in Porto page. Those in the country are on the Portugal page.
