Hanoi Street Food Tour: by Jeep, by Motorbike, on Foot or in the Kitchen

Five food experiences in Hanoi, lasting 3 to 4.5 hours: a jeep, a vintage motorbike, street food on foot and two cooking classes. Here is what each includes, and who it suits.

In Hanoi, five food experiences are listed on WizardTrip. Two city tours combine a meal with the sights, one in an army jeep, the other on a vintage motorbike. One street food tour is done on foot, and two cooking classes include a market visit. Together they have more than 42,000 reviews, with ratings rounded to 5.0 out of 5 (as of 18 October 2026).

This article weighs three ways to taste street food: riding, walking or cooking. The comparison rests on the listings alone.

Street food in Hanoi: what to know

Four of the five experiences can pick you up at your hotel. This is the case for the jeep and the motorbike, in central Hanoi and the surrounding area. The walking tour does it for hotels in the Old Quarter. The villa class offers it with an optional transfer. The 5-dish class does not include it.

All five listings give English for the guide or chef. The jeep listing nevertheless cites a French-speaking guide among the inclusions: check this point before booking.

Army jeep food tour, aboard a UAZ

The army jeep tour is done aboard a UAZ, a Vietnamese military jeep, for 20 people at most. The listing announces 4 hours, its options 4.5 hours. The guide picks you up at your hotel, in central Hanoi and the surrounding area.

The route winds through alleys and markets before the major sights. The stops with a stated duration are Ba Dinh Square (40 minutes), Train Street (30 minutes) and Long Bien Bridge (20 minutes). The program also names the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, West Lake and the B-52 Victory Museum. At Train Street, the guide points out where to have a coffee while a train goes by.

The meal is eaten at the Hidden Gem Café, whose cooking is described as healthy and organic. On the menu: spring rolls, banh mi, five-color noodles, green papaya salad, egg coffee, bia hoi. All dishes and drinks are included. The options change the meal: lunch all year, dinner from November to March, breakfast, brunch and dinner from April to October.

A poncho is included. The tour runs in all weather, but the listing allows for a possible cancellation in bad weather. A one-star review, David’s in October 2026, qualifies this picture. He writes: “Not fun when it rains, you drive around not knowing where you are, no live commentary.”

Vintage motorbike food tour: 4.5 hours in Old Hanoi

The vintage motorbike tour lasts 4.5 hours for 20 people at most. Included are an experienced driver, a helmet, a poncho and hotel pickup, in Old Hanoi and the surrounding area. The description mentions a Minsk motorbike, the options a “Motorbike/Vespa.”

The route is similar to the jeep’s. It includes Ba Dinh Square (1 hour), then Long Bien Bridge and Train Street (20 minutes each). Meals and drinks are included, at the Hidden Gem Café. Three options exist: lunch from November to March, lunch from April to October, sunset dinner all year.

The listing advises against this tour for people with a spinal injury and for pregnant women. It asks for a moderate level of fitness.

Walking street food tour in Hanoi’s Old Quarter

The walking street food tour lasts 3 hours for 8 participants at most, the smallest group in the selection. The guide comes to your hotel if it is in the Old Quarter. Otherwise, the meeting point is HA Food Tours, at 41 Luong Van Can.

The menu changes every day. Tastings take place at stalls and family-run restaurants, and may include, but are not limited to:

  • beef rice noodle soup
  • rice noodles with chicken or grilled pork
  • snails, sticky rice, fritters
  • Vietnamese pancakes and sandwiches

Included are the local guide, snacks, a food tasting and a bottle of water, a coffee or a beer. The tour is not canceled in bad weather. Vegetarian, vegan, kosher and gluten-free diets should be mentioned when you book.

Audrey (three stars, June 2026) notes that “there weren’t many drinks provided compared to the amount of food eaten.”

Cooking class in Hanoi: two options with a market visit

The 5-dish class: 3 hours 15 minutes, ten people at most

The 5-dish cooking class starts with a visit to the market, presented as the largest in Hanoi. The school is right in the center of the Old Quarter. The listing announces 3 hours 15 minutes, its description 3 to 4 hours. You prepare:

  • Starter: papaya salad
  • Main courses: pho bo (beef noodle soup), bun cha (vermicelli with grilled pork) and nem ran (fried spring rolls)
  • Dessert: egg coffee, or chocolate

A vegetarian version exists. Included are an English-speaking chef, rice vodka, coffee or tea, a recipe booklet and a certificate. Pickup is not included. The venue is said to be wheelchair accessible.

The villa class at Rose Kitchen: optional transfer

The Rose Kitchen cooking class takes place in a villa with a garden, for 30 people at most. The full experience with market and transfer lasts 4.5 hours, the version without the market 3.5 hours, with a meeting point at the villa. The listing shows 4 hours. The menu includes:

  • Starter: banana blossom, papaya or green mango salad
  • First course: bun cha, pho or cha ca La Vong, your choice
  • Second course: fried spring rolls, summer rolls or banh xeo, your choice
  • Dessert: egg coffee, salt coffee, brown sugar coffee or coconut coffee

Included are a full lunch or dinner, a welcome tea, seasonal fruit and a homemade fruit wine tasting. The transfer covers Old Hanoi and the French Quarter. The spaces are wheelchair accessible.

The listing presents the class as supporting social projects, including monthly meals for cancer patients.
