Loch Ness Tour from Edinburgh: Glencoe, the Highlands and Glenfinnan

Five day trips to the Highlands from Edinburgh, four of them to Loch Ness: cruise included or optional, groups of 16 to 57 people at most, and only one with a French audio guide. Here is how to choose.

For a Loch Ness tour from Edinburgh, five day-trip listings are on WizardTrip. They have between 4,501 and 7,391 reviews each, with ratings from 4.7 to 4.9 out of 5 (as of 18 October 2026). Four go to Loch Ness via Glencoe and Pitlochry; the fifth swaps the loch for the Glenfinnan Viaduct.

All last 12 or 12.5 hours. They differ by cruise, guide language and departure point. Here are the details of each, then which one to choose.

Loch Ness tour from Edinburgh: what to know

In all five cases, you make your own way to a meeting point in Edinburgh. Four listings specify that hotel pickup is not included. When the listing gives the time, departure is between 7:30 am and 8:15 am. Arrive about 15 minutes early.

No listing includes meals. Two listings allow one hour at Fort William for lunch; three advise bringing snacks. Glencoe and Pitlochry appear in all five itineraries.

The three-option tour: cruise, distillery or castle

This is the most reviewed listing in the selection: 7,391 reviews, rated 4.8 out of 5. You choose the version of this three-option tour when you book.

The version cannot be changed on the day, and the distillery and castle versions do not run every day. The meeting point is in front of the Burns Monument, on Regent Road. The coach has no toilets, but stops regularly.

  • Cruise: 30 minutes at Callander, then one hour at Fort Augustus, on Loch Ness. The one-hour cruise, not included, costs £22 per adult and £15 per child.
  • Distillery: 1.5 hours at the Deanston distillery, instead of Callander. Tour and tasting, not included: £19.50 per adult and £6 per child, from age 8.
  • Castle and cruise: the route in reverse, with no distillery or Fort Augustus, but with Urquhart Castle on the north shore of the loch. Cruise and admission: £32 per adult and £23 per child.

Stops are short: 10 minutes at Glencoe, 30 minutes at Pitlochry. The return to Edinburgh is announced for around 8:30 pm, earlier in winter.

Marcy writes in July 2026: “It’s a very long day, so be prepared.” A one-star review from September 2026 reports a tour canceled at the meeting point because the driver was ill.

The two Charlotte Square departures: Loch Ness or Glenfinnan

Two listings leave from Charlotte Square, at the bus stop in front of West Register House. Both take up to 57 participants and offer a guide in English or Spanish.

Loch Ness, Glencoe and two hours at Fort Augustus

The tour with two hours at Fort Augustus leaves at 7:45 am, after check-in at 7:30 am. The Spanish version leaves 15 minutes earlier. Its rating is the best of the four tours that go to Loch Ness: 4.9 out of 5 from 6,900 reviews.

  • Callander: 30 minutes.
  • Loch Tulla: 10 minutes, viewpoint.
  • Glencoe: 10 minutes, facing the Three Sisters.
  • Fort William: 1 hour, for lunch.
  • Commando Monument: 10 minutes, with Ben Nevis in view.
  • Fort Augustus: 2 hours, optional cruise or the village.
  • Pitlochry: 30 minutes.

The cruise is optional, at £22 per adult and £15 per child. Two reviews from September 2026 say it is paid for in cash, which the listing does not specify. A three-star review reports 45 minutes for lunch at Fort William, against the one hour announced.

Glenfinnan, Fort William and the Jacobite steam train

The second listing, the Glenfinnan Viaduct tour, does not go to Loch Ness: its itinerary mentions no stop there. It scores 4.9 out of 5 from 6,562 reviews. Departure is at 8:15 am, after check-in at 8 am.

Five stops mark the day: Callander, Glencoe, Fort William for a one-hour lunch, the viaduct for 1.5 hours, then Pitlochry.

The viaduct is presented as the setting of the Harry Potter films. From the visitor center, a short walk leads to the viewpoint over Loch Shiel.

You do not ride the Jacobite steam train: you may see it cross the viaduct. The listing does not guarantee that it will, as a separate company runs it, in season. It cites the 2025 dates; check the operator’s timetable.

Brenda notes in September 2026 that at Fort William “all the tour buses arrive at practically the same time.” According to that review, finding somewhere to have lunch there is hard.

The 16-seat minibus, cruise included

This is the only listing whose price includes the cruise on Loch Ness: 50 minutes on the water, with tickets booked by the organizer. The small-group tour travels in a 16-seat Mercedes minibus. It scores 4.7 out of 5 from 6,315 reviews.

The meeting point is inside Edinburgh Bus Station, at gates J and K, on St Andrew Square. Check-in closes 15 minutes before departure, a time the listing does not give. The return is announced for around 8 pm.

  • Loch Lomond and the Trossachs: 30 minutes, for a coffee.
  • Glencoe: 45 minutes.
  • Loch Ness: 1 hour, cruise included.
  • Spean Bridge: 20 minutes.
  • Pitlochry: 30 minutes.

The luggage allowance is 20 kg: one carry-on bag (about 55 × 45 × 25 cm) and one small bag. Bookings are limited to 8 passengers.

The cruise depends on the weather and can be canceled without notice. A July 2026 review tells of a U-turn before the loch after a road accident, with the cruise refunded. A three-star review from August 2026 reports 10 minutes at Glencoe instead of 45, and no stop at Pitlochry.

The tour with a French audio guide

This is the only listing where French is among the languages. The guide speaks English; audio guides are available in German, Portuguese, Mandarin, Italian, French and Spanish. The tour from the Royal Mile scores 4.8 out of 5 from 4,501 reviews.

Departure is at 7:30 am from 60 High Street, on the Royal Mile. Staff in blue vests greet travelers; arrive 15 minutes early. Return times are approximate: the listing advises allowing at least 3 hours after the scheduled time before any onward connection.

The route passes Stirling Castle without stopping. It halts for 45 minutes at Callander, 20 minutes at Glencoe and 1 hour 40 minutes at Fort Augustus, on the shore of the loch.

The cruise, about 50 minutes, is optional, from £22 per adult, and is bought at check-in. A September 2026 review states that another company runs it and bans hot food on board.

A four-star review from August 2026 counts 8 hours on the bus out of 11, with no time for lunch if you take the cruise.

Children, weather, mobility: what the listings say

The minimum age is 5 in four listings and 7 in the three-option tour, with 8 for the distillery. Three listings mention an ID to prove age.

For weather, the tour with two hours at Fort Augustus can be canceled, with an alternative or a refund. For the minibus and the audio guide tour, only the cruise can be.

All five listings consider the tour suitable for all fitness levels. The audio guide listing does not recommend it for travelers with reduced mobility.
