By La rédaction WizardTripUpdated on 7 min read

A Paracas and Huacachina tour from Lima fits into one day. Departure is between 4:50 and 6 am, with the return around 11:30 pm. Two tours listed on WizardTrip offer this circuit: the Premium luxury bus tour and the three-option tour. They have 9,969 and 6,749 reviews, with a rating of 4.9 out of 5 each (as of 18 October 2026).

This article compares the journey, the meals, the taxes and what each tour adds at Huacachina, then says which one to book for your budget.

Paracas and Huacachina day trip from Lima: what you need to know

Both tours follow the same thread. A bus leaves Lima heading south and runs along the Pacific coast to Paracas, where a boat goes to the Ballestas Islands. It then stops at a pisco vineyard before reaching the Huacachina oasis.

The journey is long. The listings do not give its length. In the reviews, one traveler counts 8 to 9 hours on the bus round trip, another about 5 hours each way.

The Premium tour listing shows 16 hours. Its schedule nonetheless runs from 4:50 am, for the first pickup, to 11:30 pm for the return to Lima. The other listing states 18 hours.

The Premium luxury bus tour, with a sunset toast

The Premium tour is offered by Peru Hop. It picks you up at your accommodation, depending on the district:

  • San Isidro: between 4:50 and 5 am.
  • Miraflores: between 5 and 5:40 am.
  • Barranco: between 5:45 and 6 am.

If your hotel is not on the booking list, tell the operator after you book. It then confirms a direct pickup or arranges the closest solution. The bus reaches Paracas around 9:30 am and stops briefly for snacks.

At 10 am, the motorboat leaves for the Ballestas Islands. The tour lasts 2 hours, entry included, and the listing promises penguins and sea lions. The bus then stops at a traditional pisco vineyard. There you follow the production of Peruvian pisco and taste several varieties. Lunch, at your own expense, is taken during free time.

At Huacachina, the listing provides 2 hours of buggy riding in the dunes, followed by sandboarding. It suggests going down on your stomach, for an easier and more enjoyable experience. The desert sunset comes with a toast. After time for dinner, the bus leaves again with a movie and free popcorn. Arrival in Lima is planned around 11:30 pm, with drop-off at your accommodation.

The listing details what is included:

  • Luxury bus: free Wi-Fi powered by Starlink, semi-reclining seats, restroom and a bilingual host on board.
  • Entry fees and taxes: Ballestas Islands, Huacachina oasis, all taxes and fees.
  • Safety: helmets for the buggy and a first-aid kit.

Two options exist. Standard includes everything above. PLUS adds seat selection in advance and a free cocktail at a partner restaurant in Lima.

Amisha writes in September 2026: “the bus was very comfortable, except that it was freezing cold. Bring a blanket or a jacket.” A 2-out-of-5 review from September 2026 notes a delay of about 1 hour at pickup. It also reports broken air conditioning.

The three-option tour, from meeting point to Premium

The second tour comes in three options. The first, “Full Day with Meeting Point,” is the most economical. The second adds pickup and return to your hotel in central Lima. The third, “Premium,” adds the buggy, sandboarding and local taxes.

With the meeting point, you wait across from the JW Marriott hotel, in Miraflores, near the small information kiosk. The address is 615 Malecón de la Reserva. The listing writes “from 5:30 am” then “before 5:30 am”: confirm the time when you book.

The bus is a large air-conditioned vehicle, with a restroom, USB ports and a large luggage storage space. Breakfast is not provided on it. The Ballestas Islands boat sails from 10 am to noon. The listing promises sea lions, Humboldt penguins, seabirds and the Candelabra geoglyph.

The pisco vineyard follows, with traditional production methods, a tasting of several varieties and time for lunch. The meal is not included.

At Huacachina, you first have free time to explore the oasis. The buggy and sandboarding are included only in the Premium option, with 2 hours of activity and a sunset toast. The other two options can add them through the guide, on the bus.

Departure from Huacachina is planned around 7 pm, for arrival in Lima between 11:30 and 11:45 pm. The return is to the departure point for the meeting-point option, to the hotel for the other two options.

The local taxes, PEN 16 at Paracas and PEN 8 at Huacachina, are included only in the Premium option. A 2-out-of-5 review from August 2026 says the author thought the buggy was included and paid $20 extra, with meals at their own expense.

What do you see at the Ballestas Islands?

Both listings present the Ballestas Islands as Peru’s “mini-Galápagos.” The first promises sea lions, penguins and seabirds. The second adds the Candelabra geoglyph and possible dolphins.

Sightings vary from one traveler to the next. Lancy writes in August 2026: “we weren’t lucky enough to spot any penguins, sea lions or seals.” He blames the El Niño effect.

What should you plan for meals and clothing?

Both listings exclude food and drinks. Bring your own breakfast. The Premium listing speaks of a direct bus ride; the other specifies that breakfast is not provided on the bus. Lunch is taken at the pisco vineyard, where each listing provides free time. Only the Premium listing mentions time for dinner before the return.

For clothing, both listings advise sunscreen and a light jacket or sweater for the boat. They ask for closed shoes for sandboarding. The Premium listing adds a hat and sunglasses. The weather is warm all year in Paracas and Huacachina.

Children, pregnant women, wheelchairs: who can come?

The minimum age for the buggy and sandboarding is 7 in both listings. Infants travel on an adult’s lap.

Both listings advise against the tour for pregnant women. The second also advises against it for spine problems or cardiovascular health issues. Both consider it suitable for all fitness levels.

The Premium tour is not wheelchair accessible. The other tour’s listing does not specify: ask the operator before booking.

Which one should you choose?

  • You want the buggy, sandboarding and the toast included: the Premium luxury bus tour, or the Premium option of the other.
  • You are after the lowest starting price: the meeting-point option of the three-option tour. The buggy, local taxes and meals are not included.
  • You put the comfort of the journey first: the Premium luxury bus tour, with Wi-Fi, semi-reclining seats and a bilingual host.
  • You travel in a wheelchair: the Premium listing excludes it, and the other does not specify.
